Mid-Year Check In
Raise your hand if you’re in disbelief that it’s June already?! (You can’t see but I’m raising mine). Time tends to escape from me when it comes to writing on here, despite all of my ideas and plans, so if you’re reading this: thank you.
I wanted to do a mid-year check in, since earlier this year I wrote about some resolutions and have been doing a lot of goal-reevaluating. The transition from 1 to 2 kiddos has been sheer chaos, and how I shape my days changes from minute-to-minute. Toddlers and babies are unpredictable, so I’m giving myself props for writing out resolutions to begin with. Raise your other hand if you’ve been struggling keeping up with any goals you’ve set? (Put ‘em up, because I can’t be the only one..)
With that, I’ll be transparent and show you all how I’ve been holding up:
Spend less-
Money: LOL. Have you seen the chicken/garden area? (Sorry Ry).
Time doom scrolling: While my screen time has been down recently (thank you, nice weather!), it’s still higher than I find appropriate (we don't need to talk about what that number is…).
Energy on draining situation & dwelling: Ok this one I can say I’ve been pretty good on! I’ve been fairly mindful about where and how I spend my time, especially since there was a tough time that was had in early spring. That gave me a wake up call and sparked some goal-reimagining.
Do more-
Outside: Yes! Aside from the brief stint of poor air quality (thanks, asthma), we’ve been soaking up the outdoors. Whether that’s walking, riding bikes, or simply just relaxing outside by the garden or poolside, you’ll see us out there.
Family Activities: We’re off to a good start here! And we have a few more ideas and plans for the rest of the summer and fall!
Cooking: I like to think I’ve mastered fresh bread and pizza dough. Also, our take-out trend has decreased, so I’ll take this as a mid-year W.
Writing & being on here: Well, we can see from previous post dates where I fall on this one…
Learning: I have yet to log into MasterClass…
Clearly, I have some work to do. So, let’s rethink some things here.
Spend less-
Money: I literally have our bills and when they’re due written out and hanging next to my monthly calendar, so I really have no excuse except to hold myself accountable. I have my limit that I self-set, so it’s really up to me to hold myself to it (self-discipline has never been my strong suit…).
Time doom-scrolling: My downtime is literally scheduled on my phone now, and still I bypass it. Anyone know how to instill self-discipline? SOS.
Do more-
Outside: I’m keeping this one because we all should strive to be outside more.
Cooking: There are plenty more recipes and things I want to master, which is where…
Learning: …this comes in. I need to read more about the food I want to cook especially. I also want to learn more about gardening, chickens as they get older, and my favorite-home design. So basically I need to actually use my MasterClass subscription…
While it can be hard to reflect and look introspectively, clearly it has some benefits to it. While it showed me I have some serious work to do, it’s also showed me that I’ve made some progress, so I’ll give myself that much warranted pat-on-the-back. Do me favor and give yourself one too, please? You’ve also earned it.
